Custom instructions

Tell Operator how you like to work, without repeating yourself in every conversation.

Add your preferences

1. Open profile menu → Settings → AI.
2. Find Custom Instructions, below Models.
3. Enter your preferences, then click outside the field or close Settings to save them. If a save error appears, resolve it before relying on the new text.

For example:

Keep explanations concise. Use descriptive layer names. Prefer subtle motion unless I ask for something more expressive. After an edit, briefly tell me what changed.

You can enter up to 5,000 characters. A counter appears as you approach the limit.

What belongs here?

Use this for recurring preferences: explanation style, naming conventions, preferred units or the kinds of motion you usually want.

Put task-specific details in your message instead. A layer name or deadline for one project should not become a standing instruction for every other project.

When do changes apply?

Saved changes apply to your next task, including a new request in an existing chat. They do not change a task already in progress. To stop using them, clear the field and save the empty value.

These are preferences, not guaranteed rules. A specific request in your current message should take precedence over a general preference, and you should still review the result.

Where are they used?

Custom instructions apply to chats inside Operator. They are not passed to Claude Desktop through Operator Connect; set preferences in that app separately if needed.

Your instructions are stored locally and sent to the selected AI provider when used. Do not include passwords, API keys, license keys or private details that the task does not need.
