Getting started

Install Operator

Install the extension, reopen After Effects, and you are ready to set up your AI connection.

Before you start

  • Adobe After Effects 22.0 (2022) or later.
  • Windows (x64) or macOS (Apple silicon).
  • Internet access for downloading, initial license activation and AI requests.
  • A supported AI account or API key. AI usage is separate from your Operator license.

Operator includes the components for its Claude Code and Codex connections. You do not need to install them separately.

Install Operator

  1. Download Operator

    Get Operator.zxp from the download page, or from your purchase email. Use the download for your supported platform.

    The After Effects extension is a .zxp package. An .mcpb file is for the optional Claude Desktop connection, not for this installation.

  2. Install the extension

    Close After Effects. Open ZXP Installer, drag Operator.zxp into its window, and wait for the installation to finish.

  3. Open Operator

    Reopen After Effects, then choose Window → Extensions → Operator. Dock or resize the panel wherever it suits your workspace.

    On the welcome screen, choose Start free trial or I have a license key. Follow the setup screens, then connect your AI.

Updating an existing installation

Close After Effects and install the new .zxp in the same way, then reopen the app. Normal updates preserve your Operator settings and chats. You do not need to delete your settings folder or restart your trial.

About update coverage

Operator does not appear in the menu

Check that the installer reported success, restart After Effects fully, and confirm your After Effects version and platform are supported. If it is still missing, use the installation troubleshooting steps.
