Models, effort and usage

Choose the model that fits your task and account. You can change your choice without setting up Operator again.

Choose a model

Use the model control near the prompt box to select from the models available for your configured connection. Manage providers and sign-in methods in Settings → AI.

The list in Operator is the source of truth for that version of the app. A provider may offer other models that this release does not yet support.

Adjust the effort

Some models offer an effort setting. Lower effort is useful for straightforward requests; higher effort gives a model more room to work through a difficult task and may take longer or use more of your allowance.

Start with the default. Increase it when the task needs more planning, not just because the setting is available. Effort is not a guarantee of a correct result — check the work either way.

Model and effort changes apply to a new task. They do not replace the settings of a task that is already running.

Understand usage

Your AI provider sets the charges, access and usage limits. Operator does not include a separate balance of AI credits with your license.

A request can involve several model responses and tool results, not just the words in your initial prompt. Detailed project context, images, long conversations and complex multi-step tasks can use more of your provider's allowance.

For authoritative billing and reset information, check your provider's dashboard. Any usage information inside Operator is a guide, not your provider's final invoice.

Work efficiently

• Name the composition and layers you want to change.
• Keep relevant follow-ups together; start a new chat when changing topics.
• Attach only the references needed for the task.
• Break complex work into reviewable stages.
• If a provider limit is reached, check its reset time or account settings instead of repeatedly resending.
