Getting started

Your first prompt

Start with a small title, then add a little motion. A spare project is a good place to get comfortable.

1. Save a project

Create a new After Effects project and a blank composition. Save the project as an .aep file before asking Operator to make changes. Project checkpoints need a saved project and a writable location.

2. Check the target

Open your composition and return to Operator. The active comp pill should show its name. If it says No comp, open a composition in After Effects first.

3. Make a title

Send this prompt:

In the active composition, add one centered text layer that says “Hello, Operator”. Name the layer “Greeting”. Use white text, and leave the composition settings unchanged.

Let Operator finish, then inspect the Greeting layer in your timeline. The result is editable in After Effects; you can change the text or adjust its properties yourself.

4. Animate the selected layer

Select Greeting in the After Effects timeline, return to Operator, and send:

Animate only the selected layer from 0% to 100% opacity over the first 12 frames. Leave its position, scale and text unchanged.

Preview the composition. Check the opacity keyframes and timing, then ask for a refinement if you want a different result.

Selection helps Operator understand your target. Naming the layer and saying what should stay unchanged makes that direction clearer.
